End of Empires of Blood

Now where was I...oh yes, now I remember.  The final days of Empires of Blood taught me a great deal.  Godfather and OldWolf took me under their wings and showed me the ropes of the game.  After a couple of weeks of building planets and upgrading my ship steadily...I began getting antsy.  I wanted to rise in the ranks and the only way to do it was to attack other players.

I noticed a player named Annika who had not logged in a while.  Over a month actually.  I mapped a few of her sectors and slowly whittled her defenses down.  The planet was relatively easy to take over but when I did....Oh my jesus...I discovered a trove of credit.  Over 180trillion who to me, with my level 34 excelsior, was hitting the jackpot in vegas.  13 Planets that day with over 130trillion each....I went home and upgraded my ship to level 41.  I was ecstatic..I felt like Hercules.

The next day I came back to discover that other players had started hitting annika also (damn that Cougar) so I started hitting the ones I knew as fast as i could.  I told my teammates my discovery and they also jumped on the bandwagon.  When the dust cleared, My ship was level 43 and the top 10 were held by my team and Eternal Empire.  Queen Feril and Phaelanx from C.O.P were in 2nd and 3rd place.  That started me thinking.  The way everyone hit Annika so fast knocked her down and destroyed her empire overnight.  Thus was hatched my Queen Feril plan.

My team and I began hitting Queen Feril hard.  She was in second place and was known to be a nefarious foe.  She hadn't logged on in two days and we were hitting her around the clock...we did not want her to come back and start whipping us like bad schoolboys.  It was brutal.  We were taking an average of 70 planets per day.  She had over 500 planets and it took us 8 days to whittle her empire to toothpicks.  Our luck I believe is that she never logged on during this time...if she had, we would have been dead meat.

But she was still in 2nd place and after we took 98% of her planets she would not budge.  I finally found her hidden sectors and found her sleeping in ther Excelsior...thank the gods with no pod even!!  After killing her...she just dissappeared and next day...all her planets were independents...everyone was snatching them up.

I ended in 7th place which I don't think it was so bad...the bad thing about it was maintaining all those planets...jesus...that was a job on its own.  Next time...I'm not taking so many planets...it stopped being a game and became a job.

And the winner is...

Wow.  March was a very long month and full of action!  Empires of Blood is my first game and a very eventful first game it was.  So where did I leave off last?  Ahh yes.  The OldWolf conflict.

Well it was not much of a conflict if any at that.  I must say, OldWolf is the first and only player so far that has run over me like a bulldozer.  Of course...he was more prepared than I was but that's no excuse.  Right after the Ardill incident, I had made an alliance with the top player.  I go to sleep and when I come back on....80% of my sectors are gone, my ship destroyed, my empire in ruins.  Oh my.

Apparently Ardill attacked OldWolf the night before and Wolf began a hostile take over of the team starting with myself.  I've had enough of Ardill's shennanigans so I left the team and went to my last 4 planets.

It took me 2 weeks to fully recover.  Luckily for me, I'd stored almost the max in turns which I used up building my planets.  Anywhere I found a sector with an upgrades port, I would build as many planets as possible and upgrade it as much as I could.  Then I would colonize it to max capacity.  Being in the same sector as an upgrades port I saved myself 2 turns per load.  When I ran out of money I would log off and wait till the next day when I could collect from my planets.

As I am doing this the war is going on full force.  I grab tidbits of it in the news.  OldWolf and Ardill had fought each other to a standstill after much heavy sparring.  Having exhausted his resources and having nobody to attack, Ardill began a shouting match in the shoutbox with Ace.  The more I saw of Ardill the more stupid I felt for having signed on so fast with him.

Godfather is an Immense fount of information and he is very instrumental in me having picked up the pieces and stabilized my empire.  He was a good friend to me.  I now realized that he also had his uses for me, but that can be forgiven as he helped more than what he used me.

Shhhh...boss is coming.  Our story will continue......

And then there was.....kablooey?

Amazing introduction to AAT that was offered to me.  Joining one of the currently running games that has about a month to go.  I was pretty excited not having played Tradewars 2002 since my college years in 1995.

Coming into the game was extraordinary!  The menus, the graphics!  Truly amazing.  Wandering around for the first couple hundred turns, checking things out and learning how to make money.  Soon I realized that in this game at least I was given enough money to buy an Endeavor type ship and proceeded to start trading and soon invested in a great small planet.  So ecstatic!

But doom always foreshadows.

Out of the lurking darkness of space came an ominous shape and scanned the planet upon which I slept trusting on its hard earned level 20 defenses to protect me.  When I awoke I found myself floating amongst the debris and detritus of Sector 1.  My ship was gone, my planet was gone.

I almost quit.  But I had been bitten by the Tradewars bug.  I came back 3 days later and discovered that Ace had been the agent of my downfall.  I met a player named Ardill that provided me with funds and generously provided me with SD's.

I kept checking the shoutbox and from it and my team members I found out that Ace and Ardill were at war.  After 2 weeks playing the game I had 13 very well developed planets in very well hidden sectors with many underlying subsectors.  While out hunting for a spot to colonize, I was again confronted with the all annoying Ace.  I was riding my Endeavor and did not stand a chance.  I decided it was time to get dirty.

I invested in a Stealth ship and followed Ace around for 2 days.  One of my teammates discovered one of his highly populated sector branches.  I searched until i found a sector with a shipdock and upgrades and with only one warp point heading into it.  I destroyed that warp point closing the sector in.  I opened up a one way warp into Ace's territory.  I created a planet and stocked it well.  Then I spent a good 2 hours stocking the sector with sd's just in case.  Then I went to work.

For all my work I'm only 3 weeks old in the game.  My proud excelsior sports only an average of level 36.  I could only carry 20mil of fighters/torps.  There were 3 planets with approximately 2bill each sd.  I nova bombed it repeatedly till i could knock the defenses down to a manageable size.  One of my teammates came in and began fortifying the sector while I assessed the zone of combat.

He had 23 links to SG sectors here and he was pretty confident on his safety since I found credits in the trillions in all 3 planets.  I decided to nova bomb all the sectors.  My other teammate and I began bombing all the sectors.  He left but I continued taking out planets and sectors.

As I came out of one of the SG sectors I noticed ace had been there just then.  I went to 1 to remove my traces and went to my hidden sector where I'd made a oneway link to his.  I waited until he showed back in and I nova'ed him.  Two teammates came back and started chasing him and I continued taking sectors.

He apparently lost his ship and could not reciprocate on the attacks.  His Guild Leader contacted me and warned me to stop attacking his guild.  I appraised him of the situation and he surprised me by being extremely gracious.  He agreed to have a talk with Ace and promised me no more attacks from EE.  Very gracious.  Specially when this player is number one on the rankings and could take me out in a good 30 minutes or so.  So I promised to be good, after all I just wanted to build my little planets and possibly get the big ship.....god that Invincible looks good.

So feeling good with myself I went to my planets and slept.  Today I awoke to find out Ardill had declared war on another guild and guess who OldWolf decided to start his campaign with?   17 planets gone, my refuge lies in the planets taken from Ace which I kept and which are deep in EE empire.  Ardill was good to me....and I'm loyal when I give my loyalty out.  But I guess its only for another month or so.....*sigh*  Its going to be a long month.
